Report

INTER COUNTY REPORT 2012

Nearly thirteen hundred people attended Vauxhall Holiday Park for the All England Inter County Finals, and this year all sixty four teams were in the first round of the main event.

The Youth teams got the weekend under way on Friday evening, with the winners of a Region paired with the runners- up of another Region, and all the Region winners came through, as Beds, Bristol A, Cleveland, Warwickshire, Kent, Lancs, West Mids, and Leicestershire all won their opening matches, they were followed by the Mens B teams where we had Kent, and Bristol two runners-up beating Region winners, but Staffs, Leicestershire, Lancs, Cleveland,Essex, and London all won their matches.

Saturday morning commenced with the Mens A, and Ladies sections, and in the A section Suffolk, London, Nhants, and Leicestershire won, Staffs had a play-off with Somerset, and Adam Davis, and Gareth Potts secured two frames for Staffs to progress, but runners-up Lincs beat Cornwall, and Wiltshire beat North Yorkshire, in the Ladies Lancs, Somerset, Kent, Notts, Bucks, and Staffs all won, but Cleveland needed Emma Wilkinson, and Louise Etherington to see them through on a play-off, and in the other match which broke the record by taking five hours to complete Debbie Barthrop, and Louise Elvin made sure Surrey were the only runners-up to go through after a play-off against Suffolk.

In the winners matches at 12-00 noon Saturday in the Mens A, Suffolk beat London 23-18, Staffs beat Shropshire 23-12, Lincolnshire beat Northamptonshire 23-17, and Leicestershire beat Wiltshire 23-12, in the B section Bristol beat Kent 23-14, Staffs beat Leics 23-13, Lancashire who were 21-18 down won the last five frames to snatch a 23-21 victory, and Essex beat London 23-16.
In the Ladies Lancs beat Somerset 23-18, Kent beat Cleveland 23-16, Staffs beat Surrey 23-13, and Notts, and Bucks went to a play-off, where Sarah Day won for Notts, but Victoria Griffith, and Emma Cunningham won to take Bucks through.
In the Youth section it was left to Chris Wells to win the last frame for Beds to beat Bristol A 23-21, Cleveland beat Warwickshire 23-16, Kent beat Lancs 23-11, and Leicestershire knocked out the champions of the last two years West Midlands 23-21.

All those who lost Friday evening, and the first session Saturday morning entered the K.O.Cup, and the winner of those then played the losers from the 12-00 noon session, this gave everyone the same format as in the past, whereby if you win two matches you are in the semi-finals, if you lose two you are eliminated, and if you win one, and lose one you play-off to decide who reaches the semi-final.

The semi's commenced at an early 8-30am Sunday morning, and in the K.O. Cup Mens A Essex beat Nhants 23-20, and Lancs beat Shropshire 24-20, in the final Lancashire beat Essex 23-18,
in the B section Kent beat Northumberland 23-11, and Leicestershire beat Derbyshire 23-16, and went on to beat Kent 23-21 in the final, the Ladies saw Cleveland beat Suffolk 23-14, and Sarah Day, and Rachel Tucker won a play-off to put Notts through 24-22 against Somerset, and in the final Cleveland had to win the last three frames to take the title 23-21, in the Youth section G.M.C. who got into the competition at the last minute were up against local rivals Lancashire, and this proved a real battle as Lancs got off to a flying start, but G.M.C. fought back to level at 22 all, in the play-off it was Aaron Davies, and Gary Frederick who saw G.M.C. through, and in the final they ran away to a 23-13 victory over Warwickshire.

In the semi's of the main event Suffolk A beat Lincolnshire 23-20, and Staffs beat Leicestershire 23-19, in the final after a fairly level two legs Staffs pulled away to win their first title for ten years 23-15, there sixth title overall, in the B section Bristol beat Lancs 23-19, and Staffs beat Essex 23-12, and Staffs went on to emulate their A side, and in fact go one better in the title stakes by winning their seventh, the Ladies had Lancashire best Buckinghamshire 23-14, and Kent beat Staffordshire 23-17, and in the final Kent were runaway winners 23-8, and that is their sixth win in the last eight years.

The Youth section saw Bedfordshire beat Kent 23-15, and Cleveland beat Leicestershire 23-17, and Cleveland forged to the front in the first leg, and never looked in danger as they ran out winners 23-15.
